For over 60 years, DOMS Incorporated has built a reputation as one of the leading manufacturers of custom suction filters and strainers.
Our high-performance products have earned us a loyal client-base comprised of several international original equipment manufacturers. DOMS filter and strainer products are designed to protect the heart of the hydraulic system—the hydraulic pump. Our high-quality products keep hydraulic components free of contamination from numerous sources, ensuring consistent performance and increased system longevity.
Our filters and strainers are specially engineered to handle rigorous hydraulic conditions, allowing us to provide solutions for markets ranging from the defense/military to the construction industry.
Filters vs. Strainers
These terms are frequently and erroneously used interchangeably, even by industry professionals. Although filters and strainers keep hydraulic systems clean by removing contaminants, they differ mainly by the size of particles allowed to pass through them.
Strainers use a porous medium to remove or prevent the passage of insoluble contaminants from a fluid. These particles are generally very small but may still be visible (typically 50 microns or larger). Filters also consist of a porous medium; however, the pores are usually smaller, making them better suited for capturing contaminants that aren’t removed by strainers. The particles retained by filters are generally invisible to the naked eye.
Types of Filter and Strainers
DOMS Incorporated’s line of standard products is integrated with both full-flow and relief valve designs. Our durable filters and strainers are rated for capacities ranging from 5GPM to 200 GPM and can retain particles as small as 10 microns with minimal differential loss. Our extensive range is also available in various sizes to accommodate 1/2in. to 4in. customary male, female, and o-ring connections.
DOMS’s hydraulic filters and strainers are highly versatile and suited for almost any system. Our material selection process and meticulous engineering techniques make the products ideal for demanding applications in industries including:
- Heavy equipment
Features and Specifications
One of the defining characteristics of our filters is the rounded root and crest pleat design. Conventional filters use an accordion-style peaked pleat composition that results in almost 30% of unused filter area. These filters are highly inefficient and difficult, or sometimes impossible, to clean.
With DOMS’s unique rounded root and crest pleat construction, 100% of the filter area is utilized. This design provides easier cleaning, allowing the filter to be reused numerous times. The increased active filtering area boosts efficiency and ensures a cleaner and longer life to the filter/strainer.
All of our filters and strainers also feature end caps with the original mechanical lock design. The end caps are flared for a tapered channel construction. With our high-strength two-part epoxy resin bonding agent, the cap, center core, and element all act together as a single monolithic unit. This prevents separation failure when the component is subjected to extreme vibration or shock.
DOMS incorporated provides a range of filters and strainers, with or without, relief valves, as part of our standard lines, as listed in the tables below. However, DOMS will provide any customized filters or strainers, if given the required specifications.
Why DOMS Incorporated?
At DOMS Incorporated, we provide filters and strainers for any application or industry. In addition to our standard product lines, we also manufacture custom filtering solutions for any unique specification. Whether it’s a metric or SAE connection, full flow or relief valve requisite, or a standard or non-standard mesh, we will handle your customized requirements. We can also incorporate any type of client-specified hardware into the designs.
Almost all our units can be furnished with metal components constructed from high-strength 300 series stainless steel for maximum durability and reliability. We also provide thorough inspection, testing, and evaluation services for new and existing filtering units.
